Wild Yellow-Throated Toucan Bounces Around the Trees - Costa Rica
A wild yellow-throated toucan is captured mid-perch on a tree branch, surrounded by the lush green canopy of Costa Rica’s South Pacific jungle. Its vibrant yellow chest and striking beak stand out against the deep forest light. The background is a blur of vines, foliage, and sky, perfectly framing this tropical moment of curiosity and color.
The Story Behind the Photo: I was at a new friend’s place, a retreat space tucked away in the South Pacific of Costa Rica called Pagoda. It’s owned by Tim, a warm, fun-loving retiree from Seattle who now shares his little slice of jungle paradise with visitors looking to slow down and reconnect. Like so many others, Tim came to Costa Rica years ago and fell in love with the rhythm, the people, the wildness of this country.
Pagoda is a reflection of that love. It’s a place designed for grounding, healing, and waking up to the kind of beauty that’s easy to miss when life moves too fast. The wildlife agrees. His property is home to wild toucans, monkeys, dozens of tropical birds, and even a wild sloth named Anna who hangs out in the trees nearby.
I took this photo while standing on his yoga deck, just as this yellow-throated toucan swooped in, bouncing from branch to branch. It felt like a hello, or maybe just a reminder to pay attention.
