The Story Behind the Photo: I remember this day so clearly. Sam and I were on our usual walkabout through Sitka, Alaska, capturing the beauty of this history-rich coastal town where Russian and Indigenous heritage are so deeply intertwined. The tide was low, and both of us wanted to adventure out along the coastline to see if we could snap anything cool. There are always bald eagles around, and with a very heavy tripod strapped to my back, I managed to get some solid snaps (and video) of this young fella.
To be honest, I may have been a little hungover from a too good of a time the night before, so I’m extra proud of myself for getting this shot.
When I got back, though, disaster struck — my SD card was corrupted. I thought I had lost all the footage and photos from the day. But after a deep dive into Reddit, consulting Father Google, and some very sketchy coding on my hard drive, I was able to recover everything. It was a gnarly reminder to always format your cards properly and back up your files ASAP!
