High Above Harrison Selkirk Mountains – Idaho

from $35.00

A wide-angle view of the stunning Selkirk Mountains on a true bluebird day. The photo captures the sweeping ridgeline high above Harrison Lake, with craggy granite outcrops framing the sparkling alpine water below. The lake sits nestled in a bowl of evergreens, reflecting the vivid blues of the summer sky. In the distance, more peaks stretch out across the horizon, each layered with forest and snow-speckled rock. It’s the kind of view that reminds you how small you are and how big the world can feel when you're standing on top of it.

The Story Behind the Photo: The morning was crisp, the kind that makes coffee taste even better. We grabbed breakfast and caffeine from Evans Brothers, stocked up on snacks at Winter Ridge, and hit the road. The Tacoma was packed and ready.

At the trailhead, the sun was just warming up the chilly air. We snacked up, stretched out, and started the hike. As we zigzagged our way up the trail, conversation flowed, the kind of aimless, wandering talk that only happens on hikes with good friends.

Despite the cool start, it ended up being one of the hottest days of July. By the time we reached Harrison Lake, we were peeling off layers and throwing snowballs, yep, even in the middle of summer. After a bit of scrambling (and using all fours), we made it to the top.

The view was unreal. A gentle breeze, alpine lakes dotting the valley below, the dramatic peaks of the Selkirk Mountains surrounding us. We stood there soaking it in, breathing deep, camera shutters clicking, hearts full.

The hike down was hot, full of laughter, off-key singing, and a little regret that we hadn’t worn more sunscreen. But mostly, it was just another unforgettable day in the Idaho mountains, the kind that stays with you.
